2007 Scottish Open Taekwondo Championships
Sunday the 25th of March saw the Inverclyde branch of the Scottish Tae Kwon-Do Academy host the 4th Scottish Open in the Greenock Sports Centre.
Charles and Gillian Boyle host the event every year where people travel from all over the U.K and Ireland. This year was no exception with over 100 students competing on the day, there was a great atmosphere and friendship extended to those students who have never competed here before. With students in Scotland travelling from afar as Dundee, and the Irish contingent travelling almost 12 hours to attend from Wexford in Southern Ireland, and from three different areas of England, There was a fantastic amount of talent on the day.
Thirty-two students from the Inverclyde club took part on the day achieving 18 Scottish Titles, 18 second places and 16 third places, results were as follows;

The Scottish Tae Kwon-Do Academy run clubs in Greenock, Gourock and Port Glasgow. There is a new club opened up in Boglestone Community Centre on Tuesday nights from 6.30pm for juniors and 7.30pm for adults, recruiting new members now (first training session free). The Scottish Tae Kwon-Do Academy offer classes for 4-6 year olds in the Westburn Church in Nelson Street in Greenock on Mondays and Thursdays from 4.15 till 5pm, this is a unique system developed to promote younger children into Martial Arts. Instructor Gillian Boyle says they are the only martial art in this area who have developed there training methods to involve children as young as 4. There are currently 12 members in the Panthers class with 6 of those undertaking there first grading recently.
Charles and Gillian Boyle would also like to thank Mr Eddie McCallum of the Broomhill Tavern for helping with the transport of the Irish team to and from Glasgow Airport, and also all parents who helped out on the day.
