INVERCLYDE SCOTTISH TAEKWONDO

Tae Kwon-Do Summer Camp

Eight students from the Inverclyde branch of the Scottish Tae Kwon-Do Academy attended the Aimaa International Summer Camp this July in Orlando Florida. The week long camp was held in the Champions Sports Complex in Orlando from the 14th to the 18th of July.

The camp saw students from all over the world fly in to take part in the week long camp hosted by Aimaa's Grandmaster Hee Il Cho and Mr Peter Lee based in Tampa Bay, Florida. There were 4 Aimaa masters present for the camp as well as Grandmaster Cho who is renowned the world over for his approach to tae kwon-do.

At a mere 67 years of age he personally taught 2 seminars at the camp the first of which on Tuesday morning was for the adults and senior students what was meant to be a 1 and a half hour seminar turned into a 3 hour seminar. This however went unnoticed as all students waited eagerly for the next set of movements to perform. Watching a man who you can only dream of coming close to in teaching terms is amazing, and all student were amazed to see him move as fast as a man in their 20's. The second of his seminars was for the junior students and panther groups, he laughed and joked with the kids as well as teaching them the importance of respect and working hard towards their goals. The kids were so disappointed when the seminar came to an end.

The rest of the week was instructed by Master Ameris, Master Darcy, Master Byrne, Master Kirkwood and various instructors from the rest of the world. Master Ameris was one of the favorite instructors of the week teaching real street defense, attacking with and defending from close contact with knifes. Master Ameris was a world champion full contact fighter in the 80's and has been featured on many magazine covers.

All students in attendance had a fantastic time and cant wait for the next camp in two years time, with the last 3 camps being held in America we hope the next is a bit closer to home.

The Academy would like to say a big thank you to Tony from GIFTO in the Oak Mall for the very generous donation of raffle prizes for our fundraising night to help students attend this event.
