School Ethics

All students should immediately read and familiarise themselves with all the rules and regulations as are set forth herein. If there are any questions concerning these rules, the student should ask a black belt or senior student for assistance or clarification.

1) No student may participate in any type of demonstration without the permission of your instructor.

2) No school emblem should be used or worn in any manner or place as would show disrespect to the school.

3) For a student to give and receive respect in the proper way is a very important aspect of martial arts training. In order to receive respect in this school, you are required to give it. If you demonstrate proper respect to all upper and lower ranks in the class, you will also receive the same respect for your efforts from them. You bow to show your respect. Always bow properly and with proper technique. Always bow upon entering and leaving the dojang. If you are late to class and class has already begun, wait for permission from the instructor before entering the training area with the other students.

4) Always keep your uniform neat. Belt ends should be within one inch of each other in length. When adjusting or fixing your uniform, always turn away from the instructor or higher ranking belts, and try not to directly face another student.Toe and finger nails must be kept clean and tidy at all times.

5) When you are in class, always maintain proper position, whether that be the stance you are in or simply standing or sitting to watch class. Always sit or stand properly. Never lean against a wall, or lay down on the floor, as it reflects poorly on the school and the discipline and respect of its students.

6) Never complain or question what you are asked to do.

7) Never clown around or joke in class. This includes the time when you and others
are preparing for class, or as you are leaving class. Horse play is strictly prohibited,
for your safety as well as that of others.

8) No gum chewing, football colours or jewelry is allowed in class.


9) Students, during opening and closing ceremonies, or during stationary basics, should line up according to rank with the upper ranking student at the right. Keep a straight line, both across to the left and right, and with those in front of and behind you. Unless you are in the high degree spot (the rightmost student on a line) there should always be someone in front of you and to your right. Even students who are not participating in the current class should stand and bow during the opening and closing ceremonies.

10) As a student of Taekwondo, you should willingly assist any higher degree student performing any type of work in the school, such as carrying in free sparring equipment, setting up flags, or any type of work which is required to conduct the class. You should never let a student of higher rank do this without asking to either take over the job yourself, or help him/her.

11) Training in Taekwondo emphasises concentration and dedication to reach the highest standards that an individual can obtain. What children gain from Taekwondo are the qualities and attitudes that are the very foundation of responsible, successful adulthood. Good grades in school are of a goal setting nature, and provide a continuing challenge. Physical development in the art of Taekwondo is a worthy goal, but not at the expense of mental training.

12) Taekwondo teaches discipline and respect. It is important that the student understand that what s/he is learning, the techniques that s/he will do, create devastating force and that they must be used only as a matter of self defense. According to the law, an individual is only allowed to use equal force against an attacker; however, s/he has every right to defend him/herself or someone else as the law allows. Taekwondo can be used legally in most self defense situations, but should not be used in other than a defensive manner. If a student misuses the art, s/he is subject to immediate dismissal with no reimbursements of monthly fees paid.
