Sword Of Friendship 2006

The last weekend in November saw Inverclyde Scottish Tae Kwon-Do Academy travel to Cork to compete in the 3rd annual Sword of Friendship. Hosted by last years adult team winners Tae Kwon-Do Ireland.
Sixteen members from Inverclyde traveled to compete in the tournament which has the aim of building friendships between all countries taking part.

Inverclyde Tae Kwon-Do returned home with two 3rd places and a second.

The junior females were first in the ring, team members Aimee Ellis, Rachel Miller, Shannon Gault, Samantha Todd Sword Of Friendship STA Squadand Jenna McVicar fought one round of fights in a straight off final with Wales (a more experienced side) with the welsh girls taking home first place and the sword for the second year running, and giving the Scottish girls second place.

Next up were the junior boys James Moran, Craig McEwan, Aiden Walker, Matthew McEwan and Jason Cox were drawn in a round robin against Wales and Ireland. Both opposing team having a major height advantage over the Scottish boys. The boys competed well and brought home 3rd place for there efforts.

The adult team were last up against last years winning Irish team. Team members Lisa Aitken, Gillian Boyle, Sam Cox, Ross Derrick and Brian Lynch competed well against the Irish but failed to make the finals, instead were up against Wales in the next round for 3rd place. The fight off with Wales ended in a draw with team captain Gillian Boyle winning the coin toss to put up one last fighter. Lisa accepted the challenge and brought home 3rd place for the Scottish Adults.
