On Saturday 3rd November Inverclyde Cho’s Tae Kwon Do held its annual black-belt grading at our full time studio 11a Kerr Hall George Square Greenock. and was overseen by Master Charles Boyle 6th degree black-belt and Academy Chief Instructor with Senior Students Mrs Boyle 4th degree and Mr Ross Derrick 3rd degree assisted on the day.
five students grading for black-belt on the day, and all students were successful.
All students have been training intensely since January and have also undertaken 3 pre-grading’s in the previous 2 months leading up to the grading, All to prepare themselves for the grueling 4 1/2 hour grading.
Students also had to undertake a teaching schedule to enable them to enter the blackbelt ranks within AIMAA.
The morning started off with a twenty min warm up, leading into all patterns, basic and advanced line work, sparring then on to pad work, self-defence, 3v’s1 sparring, 2v’s 1 sparring and 2v’s1 self-defence, and then on to breaking boards.

All students were on the floor for about 4 hours with only short breaks from time to time to take on fluids. Students were also tested on their knowledge of Tae Kwon-Do and had to submit a 1000 word essay which was then passed to Grandmaster Hee Il Cho 9th degree and president and founder of AIMAA, who also had the final say on weather or not the students had passed.
Master and Mrs Boyle are proud of all students as everyone pot in 110% and everything went right for them on the day.
the age of students grading was from 12 years to 52 years of age, and that didn’t stop them from doing all what was asked from them on the day. now that is only the beginning getting black belt, now they have a lot more knowledge to learn now.
I tell my students I am still learning even doing Tae Kwon Do for 34 years, I still learn more every time I go and train with GrandMaster Hee Il Cho and Master Darcy.
